2 Ways To Prevent An Accident To Keep Your Auto Insurance Premiums Down

If you have an accident, in most cases your premium goes up. To keep this from happening, learn ways you can prevent having a car accident. Of course, there is no way to completely prevent this from happening, but these two ways can help.

Road Rage

Getting mad at other drivers is common, but road rage takes it to another level. For example, if the driver ahead of you is driving under the speed limit, you may get so angry that you pull up as close as you can to their bumper. If the car slows down even more or stops suddenly, you will likely run into them.

You may also pass the car, get in front of them, and drive even slower, which may cause them to run into you.  If you are dealing with road rage, you are more likely to make these and other driving mistakes.

To help prevent road rage, plan your trip ahead of time. If you are running late for work or for an appointment, you are more prone to become angry with other drivers.

Not getting enough sleep can cause your stress levels to go up, which can lead to being much more inpatient on the road. Try to go to the bed at the same time each night, and getting the amount of sleep, you need to feel rested throughout the day. This may be eight hours for you, or you may do fine on six or seven hours.

Learn to Drive On Snow

If you do not know how to drive when it is snowing, you should learn how before you head out in your car.  The first thing you should do is to leave a lot of room between you and the car ahead of you.

If you feel your car is starting to slide, do not slam on your brakes. Instead, take your foot off the gas pedal, and let your car slow down on its own. If you have to brake, such as you are heading to another car, and your car has anti-lock brakes, press the bake slowly, and with an even pressure. If your car does not have anti-lock brakes, pump the brakes instead.

Contact your insurance company who may know of defensive driving schools in your area that can help you learn how to drive on snow.
