An Overview Of The Three Kinds Of Car Insurance Coverage

Are you shopping around for auto insurance? If so, know that there is more to auto insurance than finding the lowest price. You'll want to make sure that you have the right coverage that works for your needs. Here is an overview of the different types of auto insurance coverage you can get.

Liability Coverage

If you live in a state that requires auto insurance, know that they actually require you to have liability insurance. This is the type of insurance that pays for damages caused to other people and property when you are responsible for an accident. It doesn't cover any of your medical bills or your property damage. This is to help ensure that someone is not financially responsible for being in an accident that they didn't cause. It also prevents you from being responsible for the entire cost related to an accident.

Collision Coverage

The purpose of collision coverage is to protect you from expenses related to an accident and the damages you suffered, even if you were the one that was responsible for causing it. However, it only covers losses while you are driving a vehicle and have a collision with another person or object. It doesn't cover everything that can happen to your vehicle, but having liability and collision coverage will ensure that you're protected from any major accident while driving.

Comprehensive Coverage

People get comprehensive coverage when they are worried about damage that is completely out of their control. This includes incidents such as if a tree were to fall onto your vehicle, flood water gets into the vehicle, or your car catches on fire. In addition, you'll have coverage from theft or vandalism, as well as collisions with animals. Having liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage will ensure that all your main bases are covered when it comes to potential damage that can be caused to your vehicle.

However, comprehensive coverage still doesn't cover all the potential things that can happen to your vehicle. For example, you won't be protected if your vehicle simply breaks down while driving it. There is also no protection from damage caused by cold weather, even though you may think it is covered since it is weather related.
